St Helens Mental Health Carers is a group for people who support family members or friends through mental illness or distress.
We came together in 2003 with the aim of “providing support and advice for families and individuals who have a loved one who has mental health problems. Support may include campaigning to improve facilities and services for carers.”
We meet monthly, usually with a speaker. Over the years we’ve invited a wide range of people from health services, the local authority and the voluntary sector to tell us about their services and listen to our suggestions for improvements. We have a mailing list with a substantial number of local families and send out the notes of our meetings to everyone on our mailing list.
We are actively involved in improving services and have representatives on many committees and task groups to offer our point of view.
